ok ok. Multiple people have since brought it to my attention that it's probably due to my DVD player, and not the actual Helvetica DVD. That makes me feel better. I was really upset by the insinuation the the producers had gone through such pains to produce a beautiful documentary and then neglect an ironically essential aspect.
However, I am withholding the DVD from Netflix until I have proof. Stay tuned.
